Body Dysmorphic Disorder is a preoccupation with some imagined defect in appearance. If a slight physical anomaly is present, the person's concern is markedly excessive.
This preoccupation causes clinically significant distress or impairment in
the ordinary activities of daily living (social, occupational, self care, etc.)
Most clients perform repetitive, compulsive behaviours aimed at improving or hiding the 'defect'.
Common behaviours are mirror checking, seeking assurance from others (especially partners), excessive grooming, frequent clothes changing, etc.
