Therapy Toronto Psychotherapy Definitions
- Empathy
- Empathy refers to the capacity to feel, share and understand the emotions of others.
It is different from sympathy in that it involves a sense of the emotional state of the other person without being fully involved in it.
Empathy in therapy is a very important quality; it enables the therapist to offer support without losing perspective on issues vital to the client.
See also Sympathy.
