Otherness
This term functions to speak of many things that were once subsumed under the term 'mystery'.

Otherness has to do with what is strange, ungraspable, intriguing, threatening, and beyond our knowledge. Freud's Unconscious is an instance of Otherness as is Heidegger's Angst.

Otherness in the mysterious inner lives of the people with whom we hold relational connections is a separate form of Otherness.

Otherness inspires us to ask fundamental questions such as:

What makes the other person who she or he is?
Why are they the way they are?
And why am I the person I think I am?
