Xenophobia
Literally the fear of the stranger, xenophobia exercises a powerful influence in dialy life even in societies where people from all over the world mix and mingle.

The fear of the stranger is the fear of something we are unable to understand.

Otherness is a greater issue in contemporary life than in past times because there are fewer boundaries between races, cultures, religions and classes. Some people have difficulty dealing with these factors.
